About Bailey - Soon avail!

Adoption Fee: $500
Saint Bernard
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Bailey is undergoing medical treatment and still nursing her babies, she will be available after all medical is cleared and babies are fully weaned. If you want to pre apply for her you can - puppies are not available for adoption! Bailey is 18-24 mo. old - exact age is unknown. Two weeks ago we were contacted about a Saint Bernard. We agreed to take her in but needed a few days to arrange foster and transportation. She came as a stray to them months and months before, no chip, no owner came forward, so they fed her and let her roam their 20+ acres. She was incredibly sweet, well mannered, but was purely outside and needed vet care and proper care. It was in the 30's at night so we needed to move quickly. The next night at 11pm we got a call, she was having puppies and they didn't know she was pregnant! I told them we would be there in 2 days, gave advice on how to care for pups. One was lost, born still. More were coming. They were born 4/20/21. PUPPIES NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. We arrived 2 days later, little did we know they didn't take mom and pups in the house! They spent 3 nights in freezing weather under the trailer home. We loaded them up, momma wasn't the least bit protective or aggressive, which was surprising. She had obviously never bern in a car or on a leash so it was more like carrying her, but the sweetest, most scared girl we have seen in a very long time. Loaded her and 4 puppies, 2 did not look good, they were half the size of the other two and were pulling away from mom and siblings. We got home and got them settled. Mom had obviously never been in a home, we had a room set up just for her and the puppies, heating pad for the two that were having trouble. Reached out to vet for appointment and advice, did everything possible but lost the two others very fast. The vet said they looked ill, couldn't regulate body temperature and we tried CPR and all we could without any success. We renamed mom Bailey, we are working on names for the babies. Dad was a 70 pound Great Pyrenees mix. We waited to post until we could get a full blood and analysis on mom and puppies health. This was completed in full yesterday, 5/4/21. Mom has Ehrlichia, a tick born disease which CAN pass to puppies and is likely the reason 3 were lost in addition to the temperature outside they were born into. She also tested very very light Heartworm positive, as most strays we get do unfortunately! Treatment for Ehrlichia is a round of Doxycycline, the vet thinks its urgent so not to risk loosing puppies as treatment for pups will pass thru mother's milk. However, there is a chance this will cause the pups to have permanently yellow teeth. As with all rescues we have to chose the best thing for their health, so we hope that whomever adopts these sweet babies will understand. Treatment for the heartworms will be mild, bi-weekly meds as he believes its a brand new infection. Literally within the last 60-90 days, so we can probably clear her with less aggressive, less risky treatment within 90 days. This does not pass to pups! With all things going against this girl and her puppies, we are so grateful for the finder reaching out to us for help! We will do anything needed to be sure all get healthy and proper homes. Momma Bailey is adjusting to indoor life, it's taking time, but she is the kindest most laid back sweet girl we have ever met in her situation! She is only approximately 18 - 24 months max! She definitely has been a mom before, because she is an amazing mom! They are all in a foster with other dogs and cats and doing fantastic! We will let you know more as we learn more about them. Until Bailey and the babies are cleared of Ehrlichia and HW they will not be available for adoption. We want to be sure they are completely healthy first! We do all medical care needed to insure the best life when they go to a FOREVER home. Bailey cannot be spayed until after puppies are done nursing.
