He is mostly black with some white on his chest and neck. He is a robust guy and has been successful on his weight loss program but mostly gains fans from his outgoing and tremendously sweet personality. Rescue History: Barney was originally rescued from the shelter at a young age - black dogs are often the last ones adopted but he patiently waited and was adopted by a family with children. Unfortunately, fast forward 5 years and this couple separated which sadly resulted in Barney finding himself being returned to the rescue group. He had a wonderful 5 years as their spoiled fur child with abundant walks, naps in comfy dog beds, and children to play with all day long. Our heart broke when this dream life sadly ended for him and he found himself up for adoption once again as an adult dog. Through no fault of his own, the combination of his breed and the 'black dog syndrome', he's been overlooked time and time again and has hope that his family is out there. He remains with his foster dad until that time comes. Personality: Barney is a people dog - plain and simple. He loves his master and acts like he is forever indebted to his human. Barney embodies everything a man's best friend should - gratefulness and loyalty. One of Barney's signature moves is when he gets close to you he will immediately sit down and tuck his head between your legs. One may see this as a sign of submission - we just see it as Barney's way of showing his immense adoration for his person. Often he will stay in this position until he gets some good pets and love. When this is done he will drop to the floor and show you his belly in hopes of more belly rubs and good loving. Barney is a cuddler - he is in ultimate heaven when his foster dad lays with him and snuggles. Barney is extremely obedient, well behaved, and has impeccable manners in the home, he definitely knows his place. He has a calm personality and is housebroken. Barney will make a fuss with barking when he is scared of the heavy rain & thunder or fireworks. He will also give a good alert bark when someone knocks or rings the doorbell, he would never do anything but of course it's always good to have an alert barker in the home! Barney loves his walks and looks forward to his strolls around the neighborhood. On leash he is well mannered and does not pull or tug (unless he spots a squirrel!). He also enjoys the car and is a perfect gentleman when going on car rides. During the day Barney passes his time by napping, playing with his favorite foster sibling (a confident lab female who has since been adopted), or chasing squirrels in the yard. He is a low-key guy in his foster home and knows his place, just a really good boy. He likes his crate and enjoys napping in there. One of his favorite treats that his foster dad will occasionally do is let him play with the water coming out of the hose. He is like a giddy little boy when that hose comes out and he gets to chase the water. Overall, Barney is one of the best dogs to come through rescue and has gotten the short of the end of the stick all his life. He is the one dog we pray finds his forever family asap because he desperately craves the love from a family that he was used to. We love this special boy! Medical: Barney is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and has no medical issues. Dogs/Cats/Kids: Barney LOVES children - he is naturally drawn to kids whenever they are present as in the pix and video in his profile. We prefer kids 2 and older. However, he is patient, loving, and gentle with children of all ages. Being around kids is a real treat for Barney and he treasures any opportunity to be with the little humans. He is not a cat guy. Barney gets along with the right match of a dog but we think he would be fine and happy as an only dog. Would do best: Barney can really acclimate into any home that will give him as much human affection and attention as possible. This is 100% a people pleasing dog and he really needs people in his life. In a perfect world, he would love to be around his human as much as possible but he's fine hanging around the house alone when his humans go to work. He is a social creature and craves the people interaction. That can be with a family with kids, a couple who is home more often than not, or an individual looking for man's best friend. He is not an apartment dog, a house/yard situation will work best.
