About Harley

Adoption Fee: $250
Poodle
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Meet handsome Harley! He is a 10 year old, 14 pound miniature Poodle, who is a love muffin, a playful pup, a mischievous little dude, and, once in a while, a grumpy pooch! Harley unfortunately bit his prior owner (unknown why), who then brought him to a vet to be put to sleep. The vet refused and asked the lady to surrender him to them to find a new home, and then he came to us! Harley is a very friendly fellow and greets everyone he meets with kisses before rolling over for belly rubs! However, he can be resource protective. He may growl while trying to lay claim to a toy or a special dog bed, and did nip over a treat when he first came into rescue. His foster mom is working with him on this firmly, but gently, and he has improved as he has adjusted to the change in his life. Overall, Harley is very confident and relaxed in his foster home. He is also a fun-loving little guy who doesn't act his age! He enjoys playing and wrestling with other dogs in the home, or with his foster mom, and is a big fan of squeaky toys. He will snuggle with them when he is curled up napping, it's so cute! Harley is very interested in the resident cat and will bark and chase her when given an opportunity, so a home with cats is probably not the best idea. He also should not be in a home with children or one where children visit. He does well out and about in the house and does not have any destructive behaviors. He is pretty much house trained, but like many male dogs, does tend to mark in a new environment or in new situations. He knows some basic commands and is a well mannered boy! While Harley generally gets along with the dogs in his foster home, he can be bossy to more submissive pets. He walks well on a leash and likes car rides. Harley loves to be out and about, seeing and doing. This boy doesn't want to be homebound, and would love extracurricular activities like walks or adventures. Harley is going to do best in a home with a fenced yard and a doggy buddy who will keep up with him, but not allow Harley to dominate. He will also need a person willing to work with, and understand, his sometimes grumpy behavior. Harley sleeps in the big bed at night, curled up next to his person. During the day he can be found playing, sunning on the back deck, or napping on the sofa or in his foster mom's office while she works. Harley is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. He also had a dental about a month ago and his smile is very nice and white! Our vet believes he may have some arthritis in his rear legs, so he is getting a glucosamine supplement. His abdomen frequently becomes red and itchy with bumps, the vet says this is likely an allergic reaction, possibly to grass, so when Harley comes in from outside, he has his belly washed off. Nothing but the best for this little prince! If you would like to give him a new home, please submit an adoption application for review.
