About ZIPPY (aka 'Sampson')

'*** GREAT FAMILY DOG !! Sweet goofball ! *** 'ZIPPY' (aka 'Sampson') is a 35-40 lb., 1-1.5 yr old, German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix cutie pie we rescued from a high kill pound, where he had been turned in as a stray and never claimed. Sampson was super skinny when found, but has gained good weight while in rescue, and now is really hearty and healthy! Zippy is not only good looking, but has personality galore ! He is a silly, affectionate goofball. He high steps/dances like a Lipizzaner stallion when happy to see you, and also holds his leg/paw up, turning it inward. (Trust us ... it's adorable !) Zippy is also very, very smart, super attentive to his person and orient strongly, following your lead. He is really exceptional, especially for how young he is, and is highly trainable. Zippy loves the company of other playful, fun dogs, but his play-style at first can be pretty robust and semi-dominant, so he would have to be paired with a youthful, submissive canine companion with similar play-style, so it is not misinterpreted and lead to conflict. Sampson has not been around children or cats, so no children under the age of 6 yrs old is advised. Zippy is a 'buddy dog' and would love someone who leans towards the athletic, or at least enjoys daily walks and playtime with a dog. Zippy is neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, on monthly heart-worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not do it's own 'shots' ... all medical care is done by a licensed, certified Veterinarian or done under their direct supervision (ex., monthly heartworm treatments &/or deworming). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
