About Azuma

Adoption Fee: $300
German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Azuma has had a rough go in his young life. The previous owners and family members left him tied up outside without food, water, and shelter. When Azuma was saved, they said that he was severely emaciated. The skin around his ribs was sunken in around the bone. Thankfully the rescue in Utah got to work on getting him healthy. They managed to put some good weight on and we continued here in Idaho and he now looks much better. When he arrived he weighed 53 lbs. Which most people will look at and say: 'Wow, that's a big dog!' And yes that is true, but not for Azuma. He has since reached a very healthy 80 lbs of lean muscle. *** Azuma is a 2 yr old German shepherd mix. *** Azuma is the sweetest boy ever. He loves to be in your arms and give kisses. He loves to explore and see knew things. He is playful and funny when he feels safe. He is a marshmallow inside and prefers for everyone to get along. He loves to play with toys and get belly rubs but at the same time he is a pretty laid back fella. Altogether he is just a great dog to hang out with. *** We have found that Azuma loves children and seeks their love along with anyone else who will give him kisses. He is a big hit with other people when he is out and about in the community. *** Azuma does well on car rides and on walks. Sometimes he forgets how big and strong he is and need to be reminded of good leash manners. Azuma is good with other dogs but prefers friends who are not high energy and in his face. He enjoys having a family of foster sisters and brothers and does really well with them. *** Azuma is fearful of cats but we think with the right ones will learn to relax. Thus it's best he isn't in a home with high anxiety cats. *** As you can imagine, Azuma suffered from food aggression due to being starved and not knowing when his next meal would be. When his food bowl was sat down he tried to eat as fast as he could and to keep others from stealing it from him; now that he gets what he needs and trusts the people around him he no longer food guards, though for his peace of mind he still gets his food bowl separate from the other dogs. *** Azuma is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
