Reuben is a 14 month old shepherd/lab mix. He has grown up with our older lab and our 4 children in our +1 acre underground fenced in yard. He loves our family, and our other dog but with his size (85 lbs.), and his high puppy energy level, sadly he is not a good fit for our family at this time. Reuben would love to have several hours of play time a day which is something that we can't give him, and he gets bored and plays rougher than our older dog can keep up with and so he digs and chews. A home or farm with more land could only help but quality play time is what he craves. Reuben has also grown up with our three teenagers and our 3 year old child. In good conscious I had to classify him as 'not good with kids' as he will try to take food from younger children and several times he has snapped at our youngest for pulling on his tail or climbing on him when Reuben wasn't in the mood. The vast majority of the time he is fine with the kids and just wants to be with them. He is quite intelligent, extremely athletic, and enjoys chasing birds from tree-to-tree so I imagine that he could even become a hunting dog. He looks tough and will bark if there is a animal or something out of place in the yard, but if we let him he would love to cuddle on the couch and give kisses. While we desensitized him handling, and I even still pick him up occasionally, he does not like his feet touched, ticks pulled off, or topical flea and tick. We've had numerous dogs over the years and Reuben has the highest ceiling of any of them but sadly he also desires more time than we can give him so it is frustrating for us and in not fair to him. He has much more to offer and could have a happier life in a different setting. We love him very much but we want what is best for him. If you have the time to put into this large puppy he will make a great friend for years to come!
