About Willow

Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

My wife and I are looking to rehome our almost 3-year-old female Australian Shepherd named Willow (she has been spayed and is up to date on shots). We got her and her sister from my aunt when they were 12 weeks old and while we absolutely love her and she is very sweet to us and a few select people 95% of the time, we have struggled with aggression issues with her towards other dogs, strangers, and her litter mate. We welcomed our firstborn this past October and for our child's safety and the quality of life for her sister, we made the very hard decision to search for a new home for her. I'm not quite sure what kind of person would be an ideal candidate for Willow, however I'll put down some thoughts that I think would be the right characteristics. No children: I would not trust her around my own child nor children nearby. No other pets: She is not friendly to other dogs so don't expect to take her to dog parks Space to exercise: She does best when she gets adequate exercise so a space where she can run, play fetch/frisbee is needed (we have had her on about an acre of land with an electric fence and she has never broken through it even with many temptations to run through it). She loves going on trails however we stopped doing this because of the risk of running into another person/dog. Time to train her: She knows basic commands (sit, down, stay, leave it, etc), however she will need to be trained for any visitor that may come down the drive or to the house. She began to be pretty aggressive towards unfamiliar cars/people which forced us to put up a simple gate with warning signs so that no one would walk up to our door unexpectedly. I think she can learn to be OK with strangers and I firmly believe she is a smart dog that can be trained; however, we do not have the time to invest with her with this training and her litter mate continues to bring out bad behavior within her. We live in Bloomington, IN. As Willow has some unique needs, we will make sure to interview everyone who is interested to make sure we feel it's a good fit all around. Thank you for your help!
