Introducing Pinky! Pinky is a five-year-old, 38-lb Australian Kelpie and shepherd mix currently being fostered in Englewood, FL. This super sweet girl found herself at Ewenity after being left behind when her owner moved. At first, she was very frightened of closed-in spaces, doors really seemed to concern her, and getting her into the car was nearly impossible! But with some love and patience (and lots of hotdogs), Pinky has gained her confidence and overcome these fears. She hops into the car all by herself now! One thing to know about Pinky is that she cannot get enough affection. She just wants to be petted and loved. She also enjoys chewing her bone, taking lots of walks, and did we mention love and affection? Currently, Pinky lives with a 6-lb chihuahua, a 40-lb cattle dog, and a 16-year-old lab mix, and she does well with all of them. She loves to rough house with the cattle dog outside. The chihuahua has nipped Pinky's legs, but Pinky does not react at all. Sometimes she barks at him like she wants to play, but the chihuahua is not having it! Pinky has had experience with children aged 7 and 12, and she enjoyed the love and attention they gave her. While she has not lived with a cat, she seems somewhat cautious of outdoor cats, and we suspect she would get used to a friendly cat. Pinky is working on basic commands such as 'sit' and 'come,' and she would benefit from additional training to help with her boundaries and confidence. When her foster took her to be spayed in March, we learned that Pinky was heartworm positive. The vet said that Pinky's heart sounds strong and proceeded with the spay prior to heartworm treatment. Pinky is a strong, healthy girl. Being heartworm positive has not slowed her down! She has completed the month of antibiotics required prior to starting the heartworm treatment, and she will begin treatment on May 10th. In June, she will have an overnight stay at the vet in Venice, FL and receive back-to-back doses of the heartworm treatment. Ewenity Farm pays for the cost of heartworm treatment for Pinky. The approved adopter can wait until treatment is completed to take Pinky or, if close to her current vet, adopt her and take her for further treatments. Pinky is house trained, up-to-date on vaccine, and requires a home with a fenced-in yard.
