About Gus

Adoption Fee: $350
Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

#Corky, #Dorky and oh so #Snorty, Ladies & Gentlemen meet our #Dapper young man #Gus. Don't let that big smile fool you, because Gus is just as much of a trouble maker as he is cute. Gus is a 3 year old, Olde English Bulldogge who weighs in around 75 lbs. He's not only the biggest cuddle monster you'll ever meet, but has a huge personality that instantly lights up a room. He's pretty much the class clown of his pack. Gus has the mindset of a Boxer who is just a huge goofball at the end of the day, where at times he can take the joke or play to far until he is redirected properly. He has the typical stubborn, arrogant mentality of a typical Bulldogge, but can be very guarded at times like your typical Shepherd. All Gus wants in life is to be with his human. He prefers to keep his circle small and simple, but with a proper introduction Gus does incredible with new people. He prefers males over females and would choose a Bromance over anything else. Gus was an owner surrender by an incredible family who was introduced to the wrong tools of trade by a professional trainer (Prong Collar & a Shock Collar). Those tools not only set him back, but took a toll on his mental health. Sadly it made him become reactive and guarded- hence why a proper introduction with new people and other animals is vitality important. He is no longer reactive on long walks and is no longer reactive in his crate. Gus is now great at sharing toys these days with both people and other dogs, but Gus will guard his food and high valued items (Bones/kongs/lickmats) from other animals (He's now fine with humans though). Gus is very food & toy motivated. He loves to play with enrichment toys that offer high valued treats and lives for our adventures to the park to play catch. Gus craves human companionship, loves to play outside all day with his foster brother Asher, enjoys movie nights, lives for car rides & loves to wrestling with his foster Dad. Gus is 100% potty trained, 100% crate trained, & phenomenal a leash (He still pulls a bit, but does great on his martingale). Gus does phenomenal with other dogs with a proper introduction & does well with the cat in his foster home. Sadly Gus does NOT DO WELL with Kids. Gus does have a bite history of trying to chase and attack children. We just want to make that very clear. We believe that he gets severely jealous of them. Gus will also require a fenced in yard. Gus is very active and is considered a working breed dog. That means Gus needs a job each day to achieve some form of validation. Gus needs to not only be physically exercised, but mentally stimulated. Gus would thrive best in an active home that could offer/provide him with consistent structure day in and day out. What Gus needs is a partner in crime who is patient and will work with him each day to slowly push him outside of his comfort zone. Gus is now fully trained using 'Force Free Methods.' Remember, Trust is earned both ways and you cannot force a dog to trust you nor can you force them to respect you. Gus is now trained off leash with his current Foster Dad. Gus does not do well with young children under the age of 16. Adoption #Requirements: No Exceptions - Fenced in Yard Required - Gus's new home must have another dog for him to bond with that is a large breed dog over 50lbs - No Kid's Under 16 (Has a bite history with children) Gus is currently up for adoption through Lending A Helping Paw Dog Rescue.
