About Drover

Adoption Fee: $275
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

The Delightful Drover! Drover is an approximately 11-year-old, 55-pound red merle Australian Shepherd mix with a beautiful full tail and a merry invitation in his eye for a lifelong friendship. Foster Mom says, 'He is ALWAYS happy to see you.' This young-hearted lad has energy and thrives on activity like the daily walks he treasures. Drover lost his last home when his Person died unexpectedly. Can you imagine being suddenly displaced from all you know? Yet, this hasn't hampered the spirit of this happy-hearted fella. Drover has only known love, and is looking for Someone to love again. Drover's Dearest Delight is being with his People. This eager to please pooch LOVES his person! He enjoys spending time with his People outside- walkies are his love language. A morning amble and evening stroll? Drover is the perfect pooch partner. Drover's an independent free spirit who can be stressed if his personal space is overwhelmed by people he doesn't know. That happened when he bit a well-meaning person on the toe when they ignored his signals and crowded him. Drover's Folks will be adept at managing his social interactions. After some activity, the cheerful pup is ready for a little downtime to quietly contemplate the joys of life. Drover doesn't see himself as a lap dog- he just needs his favorite spot, a bone to chew contentedly on, and his loved ones nearby. Drover enjoys sleeping in the same room with his Folks. His heart's desire is a place to be his best self with Someone to bestow his sweet Drover Smile on. Drover is longing to give all his love and loyalty to the person who knows how to manage a gent seeking to improve his social skills. Drover knows his house manners, and is a gentleman when left inside on his own. He does okay in his crate, though Drover infinitely prefers to quietly roam free and keep an eye on things. He can be diligent in alerting the arrival of garbage trucks and delivery folks. This smart Aussie knows all the basics, of course: 'sit', 'stay', 'down', and 'leave it'. Drover does well on his leash, though he may give an instinctive tug to follow a squirrel or bird he spies. After forming a close bond with his person, he can be trusted to stay close off-lead when there's no one else around. Car jaunts mean new pleasures with his People. Please just give the fastidious, quirky fellow a moment to mutter as he finds the best 'settle in for the journey' spot! Drover will delight a confident and experienced herding breed retiree or Aussie-savvy Person who is home often and wants a devoted, cheerful companion to brighten long days and take on routine leisurely walks. Drover needs a loving Aussie-adept Person eager to lead this boy in managing his socialization and quirks during his golden years. Drover's delight would be an adults-only home, or one with children 14 and up who would like an older furry friend to keep them company during homework sessions. Drover is dog-selective. While he might enjoy another laidback canine sibling, it would require a meet and greet. Drover likes to chase felines, so they wouldm't want him for a housemate. Adopters should always conduct slow, thoughtful introductions to new people, dogs, and places whenever adding a new pup-for Drover, this is a must. A fenced yard is preferred for Drover, but not necessary for the right Person who will take him on those daily strolls and walking adventures. Here's how Drover sees it all, 'Dear Mine, we were meant to enjoy this life together. I live to be a Buddy and just be me, a happy dog, delighted to be with you.'
