Meet gorgeous George! George is a 2 year old Foxhound / Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs about 55 lbs. He was taken in by the South Pacific County Humane Society in January this year, after he was found as a stray. He immediately became a firm favorite with everyone at the shelter. A playful and affectionate pup, George is full of energy and fun. He has a big smile and an even bigger heart! George gets on well with other dogs, and has several canine buddies at the shelter who he loves playing with in the meet and greet area. George loves the water and loves to play ball.He is full of beans, and particularly likes playing with larger dogs. He is not however a fan of cats! When George first arrived at the shelter he developed an unusual habit of eating rocks. Clearly not good for him, the shelter volunteers worked on reducing this behavior, which was thought to be caused by either stress, or boredom. In recent months this has not been a problem. George really enjoys going for walks, he is curious and is happiest when he is exploring. He would do well with an active person or family. George is smart and knows some commands. He is food motivated and would be trainable outside the shelter environment. He would benefit from some more leash training, though a lot of his energy is pent up energy from being in the shelter for 7 months. George also really likes going in the car! George does startle at sudden loud noises, and the recent July 4th fireworks on the peninsula were a challenge for him. He can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but he quickly warms up once he gets to know you. Dog walker Kate Cooper says of George, 'he is an absolute sweetheart! I always enjoying seeing him when I get to the shelter, and he gives his friendly bark. Though I would really enjoy to not see him anymore, if this meant he had been adopted. He really deserves a great home!' If George sounds like the pup for you, please get in touch!
