Hera is not available for adoption. She is battling a deadly fungal infection called Blastomycosis. Hera has been fighting the infection for 6 months now. When we first rescued her, it took several doctors and a specialist to figure out what was wrong since the infection is so rare. The fungus invaded Hera's entire body. She was in an oxygen tank for 4 days, she couldn't use her front leg, and the infection caused her to be blind. Now, after $16,000 in vet bills, Hera's clinically doing well, but her Blasto levels are still high at 11.4. We continuously monitor her blood and organ values as her antifungal meds can damage her liver and kidneys. She goes back for a recheck in January. Being blind has not stopped Hera from being a normal pup. At only 1-year-old, she enjoys playing with other dogs more than anything. She has learned how to go up and down steps as well.
