About Austin

Austin has had a rough time of it over the past year and is looking for humans who will make a much brighter future. He is a 31.2 pound tall and lanky boy with tons of energy to run off! Austin is a 1 year old Vizla mix who needs a home with a strong leader who is committed to working with and training him. He had previously been adopted from another rescue but soon found himself escaping out of his home and wandering the streets. Luckily HARTT (Humane Animal Rescue Trapping Team) got involved and was able to successfully trap him. Austin was found in a storm gutter fearing humans and needing to relearn how to trust. Sadly his adopters no longer wanted Austin and we had the pleasure of taking in this goofy boy. He loves to play with other dogs of all sizes but does need a proper introduction first, so any other dogs in the home will need to meet him prior to adoption. Austin could run and play all day! He can become possessive of his people towards other dogs but responds well to verbal corrections, so he will need ongoing work with that if there are other dogs in his home. Austin is very shy and will need time and patience to make friends with humans. He prefers women to men, so he may take more time to warm up to any men in the home. He is looking for a home with only adults and older teens as children spook him. Austin has done well with cats but will try to play with them, so would do best with confident, dog savvy cats. He is getting better on the leash each time he goes out but will need additional training as he adjusts in his forever home. Austin will need a vigilant home that will keep Austin safe and off the streets. He is kennel trained, but will need ongoing work on his potty training. No apartments or rentals with breed or weight restrictions. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and vet checked. His adoption fee of $160 includes a free vet visit.
