About Crystal

Say hi to Crystal! She is a beautiful 5 ��%BD%BD year old, 30 pound mixed breed dog with the pretty look of a small German Shepherd! Crystal was found as a stray on the streets in Texas with eight 3-week old pups (some of whom are still available for adoption). She was a very good mom to her pups, but now that they are old enough for their own homes, she is too! This mama is going into retirement and deserves a home with steady meals, soft beds, and the love of a family. Crystal can be slightly timid but is very friendly to everyone she meets. She likes a pat on the head and a scratch behind the ear, and her very favorite, a belly rub! She took a day or two to warm up to the dogs in her foster home, but gets along with everyone. She likes to play with the other dogs, chase a ball, and run through the back yard. She also likes to play with toys, and really enjoys playing tug of war with her person. Crystal will sleep in an open door kennel or at the foot of the bed at night. Mornings seem to be her favorite time of the day. She likes getting up early to go outside and explore, or to sit on the back patio, simply watching and listening to the quiet. Of course, after that, she goes to see who she can get to play with her! She is her foster mom's little shadow, always following just two steps behind. She doesn't have a big appetite and sometimes doesn't finish a meal, but she will eat when she's hungry. Crystal is well behaved, not destructive in the home, listens and follows most commands, and is doing really well with her house training. When she gets excited during play or if there's a strange noise or knock at the door, she does bark, but not excessively. She just gives a little heads up for her people. Crystal has not been tested with kids but we think she would probably do well with older children who know how to behave with dogs. She has not been cat tested. Crystal has good energy and should have regular exercise and an outlet for her playfulness. Her foster mom makes sure she gets to play a couple of times a day, goes for a walk in the evening, and gets daily outdoor time. Crystal would love to have an active doggie buddy in her new home. A fenced yard would be preferred as she enjoys the freedom of the outdoors, although she walks well on a leash. She also likes to go on car rides. Crystal has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. Her spay is scheduled soon at our vet and is covered by the rescue. As a result of living outside and on the streets without proper care, Crystal is heartworm positive. She has been started on treatment, which is provided and paid for by the rescue, as well as the cost of her testing, until she is negative. Crystal is a good girl looking for a forever home where she will be spoiled and get lots of attention!
