Beau is an intelligent, loyal and fun loving puppy. This 5 month old hound mix would be a great family member especially for someone who wants a companion puppy for another playful pup or family members who enjoy training (will follow people around home). Very food motivated, can learn tricks. Almost all house trained (no poop accidents in foster home, we take him out within 5 min of eating and now he goes near the door when he needs to pee but may need to be let out every 2 hours or so to avoid pee accidents). Beau was insecure and scared when foster home took him in but within a day and every day after he has blossomed into a brave puppy with an unforgettable personality that makes you laugh. Beau is vocal and will give you a hound baying bark to alert when someone pulls into your driveway or your teenager sneaks in after curfew. He wears his ears two ways backwards and floppy and has a cute pink nose and golden eyes. Beau loves to make toys squeak and play with the other dog in foster care home. He gets along with cats but when they hiss and do their cat things he barks insecurely- does not chase them and has been seen sleeping next to the brave cats. He loves to track scents in the yard, dig at water and eat water rocks (ice cubes). Beau has been practicing lots of puppy manners in foster care; crate training, bathing, ear cleaning, nail trims, sit- shake and exposure to strangers and pets. Beau also has been 'food bowl' and 'resource guarding' trained. This training involved using positive reinforcement, giving Beau a substitute treat he loves while saying 'what have you got there', 'leave it' and 'give it'. Give the treat when he lets you take food - toys- or items pups should not chew. Beau currently lets us go into and hold his food bowl when eating. Beau use to resource guard a few favorite toys- (nylon bones) but with training now trust people to take away items. This training should be continued. Beau is a smart adaptable sweet puppy who would grow into a great dog for a family who has time to play and train him. Come meet Beau, get past his little insecure act by giving food or treats; you won't be disappointed. Est. DOB: 6/30/20 36 lbs and growing AAR does not transport for adoption.
