About RUDY

Adopt Rudy!!! Rudy is a 3 year old male, rough coated Saint Bernard. He is a small male at only 110+ pounds, but his personality makes up for his size! We Adopt Nationwide & Deliver Nationwide! Location: Oklahoma City Rudy came to us as a transfer from another rescue, where he bit a guest in his first foster home. They were faced with the inability to adopt him out & he was facing euthanasia, but they reached out & we agreed to take him into our behavioral rehabilitation program. He has spent several weeks in board & train with our behaviorist so we could evaluate his temperament and work on training, test him for aggression issues and triggers. Good news, never has he shown aggression to any human or animal in our care! He has been pretty close to perfect since we took him in. We did discover that Rudy suffers from mild arthritis in his back legs & a front shoulder. We also discovered that Rudy is deaf in one ear & partially deaf in another, which has made training difficult. We truly believe that the bite must have occurred due to being startled or possibly due to the pain he was in before we got him. We put Rudy on Dasequin joint supplements, 4000mg of fish oil which helped tremendously, then added Gabapentin daily for pain & Rudy came alive! He is hopping & playing & really has lit up like a Christmas tree! He is great with other dogs, he can play with them or be fine if they don't want to really interact with him either. Rudy loves people, kids 13+ and does great with all dogs that are not aggressive towards him, he is very passive. He is absolutely great with cats and could care less about them! He will need a home that can afford his daily medication (Gabapentin daily and Anti-inflammatory for days he over does it) and care. These medications are very inexpensive. His training has been a struggle do to being deaf, he pulls on leash and gets distracted easily, but has made tremendous progress. He has conquered the 'sit' command but only if standing in front of him and when he feels like it. He definitely is a stubborn Saint, yet sweet & loving! He can live with other dogs or could also live as an only dog, he absolutely loves to cuddle, lay on the couch or recliner with you and just wants to be near his human. He does not like toys in general but recently we discovered he loves to play with balls! He enjoys snuggling up and loving his person unconditionally, having any cuddles or touch you are willing to give him. He loves to give kisses and receive love. Due to Rudy having a bite history, even though we feel this was due to being startled or possibly hurt, we will require a home with no children under 13 years of age per our trainer's advice, insurance and safety requirements.
