About Rojo

Meet Rojo! He is a quiet older poodle mix who was surrendered when his owner was no longer able to care for him. Rojo is 12 years old and weighs around 12 pounds. Understandably he's very scared and uncertain with all the changes in his life, but with love and encouragement he is starting to adjust. Rojo loves snuggling with his foster mom and dad on the couch and curls up in the big bed with his foster family and the other dogs at night. He is starting to get comfortable enough to lay down in a bed on his own after a good round of pacing and he's just started to wag his tail! Rojo is most likely missing his dad and doesn't like being left alone. He would probably be best with someone who is retired or works from home and can give him reassurance that they aren't going to leave him. Rojo would do well in a home with a calm dog sibling to keep him company. He can be grumpy if dogs are too playful in his space. He also startles easily and will get snippy, especially if he's tired or you're waking him up. He has cataracts and We think he may also have hearing loss since he seems to respond best when he can see you and that may contribute to the startling. He has not been tested with cats and should not go to a home with children. As an older gentleman, his joints aren't great so he needs a lift up stairs or onto furniture to snuggle. Rojo enjoys wandering the yard and sniffing around, and a fenced yard is best to keep him safe. He walks on a leash well but slowly and in a straight line, he just needs some encouragement to turn corners! He hasn't been very interested in food, but we're hoping that will change as he becomes more comfortable. He doesn't appear to be house trained, but his foster parents are starting to work on it with lots of positive reinforcement. The first time Rojo went potty outside he must have thought his foster mom was crazy because she got so excited for him! He definitely needs somebody in his corner cheering him on! He's been through a pretty big change and needs a calm place to lay his sweet head with a special family to love. Rojo has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration.
