CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE, MALE AND FEMALE, 5 YEARS OLD, 20 POUNDS CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE ARE BEING FOSTERED IN THE RICHMOND VA AREA. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THEM, PLEASE GO TO WWW.MOMSVA.ORG AND COMPLETE AN APPLICATION. These two are best friends and need to stay together in a home without small children . It would be easier to keep them together because they keep each other entertained all day playing and then snuggle together all night. Tennille is very shy and Captain helps her to be brave. They are small in stature for beagles so the two of them basically make up one dog. And really, two dogs are always better than one! Captain - estimated to be 5 but may be younger, about 20lbs Captain is a funny, sweet, energetic, handsome little man. He generally spends all day wrestling with Tennille. He loves to snuggle with his beagle sister Tennille or with humans. He gets very excited to go on walks; however, he is very vocal when he catches the trail of something or when he sees bicycles - his sworn enemies. Walks with Captain can be a handful especially on a nice day. He is very smart and learned how to sit for treats very quickly. He's very food motivated. He has not shown food aggression unless there's a special treat involved. He does not seem to care for playing with toys but loves to chew/play with rocks (which explains his teeth). Captain does well with dogs his own size up to large beagle size. He growls and snaps at dogs larger than him while on a leash, but given time to work things out off-leash, he has gotten along with larger dogs. Captain likes most people but he will growl at new people if they approach while he's sitting with his favorite human. He does have a very bad habit of eating poop and digging holes. He's quiet in his crate when left during the day and through the night. He is about 90% house trained, just don't make him wait too long to potty or he will go in the house. Captain is pretty brave and is not scared of most sounds including thunder and fireworks and seems to be relatively unphased by the vacuum. He's a flight risk and needs to be watched around open doors and gates. IMPORTANT: Captain does have a seizure disorder and takes medicine twice a day every day with a cost of $30 a month. He will need this medication his entire life to control his seizures. He has not had a seizure since starting the medication. Tennille - estimated to be five but may be older, about 20lbs Tennille is a happy, cute, pudgy little lady. She loves all people, kids, other dogs, and even the one cat we met on a walk. She gets SO excited when she sees someone, she does a little dance. She generally spends all day wrestling with Captain or burying her stuffed toys. She does not like to cuddle or be held very long by a human. However, she does love to snuggle with her beagle brother Captain. She gets really excited to go on walks but she is very vocal when she sees squirrels or bunnies - her sworn enemies. Otherwise, she walks very nicely on a leash. She has not shown food aggression unless there is a special treat involved. I have not been working with her on sit because she just naturally sits nicely and patiently for her treats or meals. What a good girl! She also has a bad habit of eating poop and dirt. Tennille never had an accident in the house until we had long spans of rain so I'd say she's about 90% house trained too. Tennille is quiet in her crate while I leave the house and through the night. She is pretty timid and is scared of inside house noises like the blender, vacuum, and plastic bags rustling. She does not seem to be scared of thunder or fireworks. She is also nervous/apprehensive when eating and going in and out of doors. Most of the world scares Tennille but she remains a happy little dog. If you think you're a match to Captain and Tennille, please go to www.momsva.org and complete an application.
