About Triton

Newfoundland / Great Pyrenees
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Please note that we are a TX based rescue that transports our dogs to their new homes once they have been adopted. All of our dogs reside in foster homes in TX, so much is known about their personality and temperament. Triton!!!! What an amazing name to live up to!!!! Triton is a Greek god of the sea, the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, god and goddess of the sea respectively. Triton lived with his parents, in a golden palace on the bottom of the sea. Later he was often depicted as having a conch shell he would blow like a trumpet. How AWESOME is that!! And what a fitting name for a GORGEOUS 10 month old, male Newfoundland water dog!!! The Newfoundland breed is a huge and intelligent working dog often seen alongside fishermen. This breed is considered water dogs because of their distinctive partially webbed feet. Their huge size and superior swimming ability has been very useful in water rescues as they are strong enough to save a man from drowning. And, little known fact, this amazing dog will actually submerge it's head underwater and blow out air bubbles to prolong it's ability to stay submerged (I can do this!!!) Foster Mum says that I love water more than any dog she has ever seen. I am in heaven when I am swimming!! Fortunately, my foster family lives on a ranch that borders a river and I go swimming twice daily. I will swim back and forth in the deepest part of the river with a look of sheer ecstasy on my face. When I am through swimming, I will haul myself onto the shore, shake mightily, and start exploring the river bank. If there is not a river or ocean nearby, I will lay down in my wading pool or run through the sprinklers!! It makes Foster Mum laugh and laugh to see me and the other foster pups try to catch the water stream in mid air!! I guess things are pretty boring in quarantine on the ranch for her LOL :) My breed are sometimes called 'Nanny' dogs because of our gentleness, loyalty, calm disposition, and intelligence. I have the thick double coat, webbed paws, and double dew claws specific to my breed. I can be a little uncertain in new situations, but will quickly become a person's BFF with a few kind words and scritches!! I was born 11/02/19 at a breeding facility in San Antonio, TX.. The breeder kept me at their facility for a number of months before they adopted me out. Due to my lack of real life experience, I was overly curious about my new family's cat and was surrendered to rescue (I just wanted to see what smelled sooo funny!!) Sheesh, folks, give me a chance!! I was never out of my kennel for 8 month of my life!! Even though I weigh 90 pounds, I am just a growing puppy at heart and need encouragement, love, and direction. As an independent thinker, I can come across as a little aloof. I am not a 'needy' dog and there will be none of the begging and shenanigans that accompany many breeds. I walk well on the leash and don't tug or pull. Due to my thick coat, I would do best in a cooler climate (than South Texas!!). Based solely on my giant size, I would do best in a home with adults or older children. Although I am extremely gentle, one wag of my still growing tail could accidentally knock a toddler over I am good with the other dogs and, besides chasing water streams, we play a rousing game of chase up and down the fence line. Whether you live in a 'golden palace', on the banks of a river, or somewhere in between, I hope that you will give me the encouragement and support to become my best self!!
