Must be adopted by K9 Handler, trainer, Very experienced working dog handler or retired handler. NOT PET QUALITY. Mac is a 2 year old(Oct 2018 Birthday), M-neutered, Up To Date on Vaccines, on flea/hw prevention, HIGH ENERGY, High Drive, East German/Czech line German Shepherd. He is NOT PET QUALITY and should not be in a home with ANY children unless the handler is very experienced! He must be adopted to a working home that understands how much exercise, brain stimulation, structure and work these dogs take daily. **He was surrendered due to serious Food Aggression and Possesive Behavior. He did a very serious bite on his dad and he also bit his mom, just not as severely. Both bites were over food/treats We have had him here for almost 6 months and he is making great improvements. We can move him off his food with a vocal very easily now, but it took respect, trust and correction to get there. He is also a lot easier to work all together. When he first came in, if he didn't want to do something he was asked, he would offer to bite to back down his handler. Personality Wise, he has dominant tendencies, but is not a true dominant. He is a tad nervy so he does need a very calm, collected, confident, firm but fair, experienced and patient handler that knows their stuff and can continue to build his healthy confidence through strong leadership, a lot of daily exercise and mental stimulation. Although he is a tad bit nervy, Once he respects and trusts his handler he will try almost anything for that person! He's the type that will look at something he's unsure of and will go off the confidence he has with his handler. If he isn't worked enough physically he can get over stimulated and can redirect on the handler during excited times, so it's very important that this dog gets what he needs physically. He is high energy, high drive, high ball drive, prey drive is controllable and he loves tracking the chicken and other dogs in the yard. He'll actually do it for fun, if he gets bored out in the dog yard. He is good on leash, but does require a prong collar in public as he gets energetic and a little more excitable in public. He also does best with a shock collar to address some slight dog reactivity at this point and a tad bit of fixation on people walking by that must be corrected. Although that is also getting better. With new people he is untrusting and cautious and will push buttons to.see if you are a follower or a teacher. He must be made to respect peoples boundaries and space so that he doesn't make the wrong choice. With the right handler this guy may be able to go to a single or dual purpose job, but I have not tested him to know for sure. He does have high ball drive and loves to use his nose. We also know that he does enjoy biting and releasing on command so with a solid working dog trainer or handler this dog might be a great little combo. He seems to be somewhat environmentally sound, although the more respect and trust he had with his handler, the better that will get! We will donate Mac to a police handler or SAR Handler looking for a partner. We will also offer a discount for a Veteran Adopter!
