About Barney

Meet Barney! Barney is an adorable Pekingese-Dachshund mix who was owner surrendered to us. He is a 3 year old, cute as can be, 15 ��%BD%BD pound chubby boy (we are working to slim him down)! He is medically challenged as he does have diabetes and is on insulin. He requires regular vet checks to ensure that his blood glucose is in the desired range. Weight loss, a healthy diet and exercise, as well as a stress-free stable home environment, will help Barney maintain and regulate his blood sugar levels. He was surrendered because his owners were not able to provide the time and care for his diabetes. With that being said, Barney is a friendly boy who is fitting in well at his foster home! Originally he was timid and shy with the other dogs and the new environment, but he has gained confidence and ventures freely through the house and outdoors. He has learned to trust his foster mama and openly accepts petting and kindness. He likes to show some spunk and is playful with his person, but at this time he doesn't play with the other dogs. He is a fully housetrained, well mannered pet who pays no attention to the resident cat. He does well with calm, quiet, older children, but he does show anxiety with too much excitement or activity so a home with younger or active kids is not a good fit. He will seek affection from his person and give kisses when he's happy. Barney follows his person around the house or lies in the kitchen if you're busy. However, when you are at rest, he wants to be right there next to you on the couch having his ears scratched or his belly rubbed! At night, he wants to be cuddled up next to you or at the foot of the bed. He will bark when someone comes to the door and will whimper when he wants off the couch or to go outside, but he is generally a quiet little guy who wants to sit in your lap. He likes to go for car rides and walks well on a leash. Barney is fully vetted and up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, on heartworm/flea prevention, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. We are working to find the right insulin dosage with our vet and his adopter will need to continue that care as well. Barney needs a special home with a loving and dedicated owner who will properly care for him; in return he will be a loyal pet and wonderful companion who will worm his way right into your heart!
