About Piper

Meet Piper, a sweet and spunky 5-6 year old Maltichon (Maltese/Bichon mix), who is a retired breeding momma from an Amish puppy mill. She is leash trained and loves to go outside for walks! Fence is not required. She is making steady progress with house training. Piper prefers to be crated with a buddy for company. She will need another dog in her new home to help show her around. She's friendly towards large and small dogs, but has not been cat tested. Piper has a curious personality and follows her foster around the house. She LOVES her set of doggie stairs and uses them often to join her foster on the couch or to snuggle up in bed for the night. She can be playful and silly, but also enjoys snoozing on the couch. She can take a little bit to warm up around strangers, especially men. Piper has made tremendous progress while decompressing with her foster. She still sometimes retreats when approached from above, sadly due to her previous traumas living in a puppy mill. Cue words like 'up', 'down', and 'leash' are very helpful, and Piper is learning that it is safe to be picked up and handled. She will need a patient family to help her finish settling into her forever home. She is fully vetted and recently had a dental. Piper has some skin allergies that have responded well to a Cytopoint injection, daily antihistamine, and fish-based diet. Her adopter will need to continue treatment.
