About Butterbean

Adoption Fee: $100
Lab
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

This sweetheart is our baby. He's a Lab mutt, and Wwe've had him for over three years and love him dearly, but he is ageing and we don't have enough time or money to dedicate to giving him all of the love he deserves as he gets older. We suspect he may have dementia, but cannot afford to take him to the vet to evaluate. He has recurring ear infections that our vet couldn't figure out, but careful watch on his diet and over-the-counter Zymox have helped us manage them. He has no other known health issues, though, and has a great temperament. He has varied reactions to other dogs, depending on how they approach him, but we like to say he has a big heart because he cries when he sees other dogs chained up outside and has in the past run away from home to try and help them (Ex- he wiggled out of his leash and ran to our neighbor's house to their husky chained up outside and brought him to our front door when his chain broke). He can be territorial and does bark at other animals when they're in the yard. Only occasionally if it's on a walk. He loves people, so he's a terrible guard dog. He is quite laid back and likes to nap a lot, and always has! He doesn't enjoy toys much, but he LOVES food, and his favourite thing to 'play' with is an edible dog bone. He likes to run, and would prefer somewhere with a sturdy fence because he is eager to run off when not on a leash. As long as he is on-leash a fence is not required. He's very smart, and will learn to only get on the sofa or bed when invited... or when you're not looking! :) He's a sucker for pillows and blankets, so freshly washed bedsheets are never safe for long. He is horribly afraid of thunder and rain, which has recently worsened into some destructive behaviours (chewing blinds/boxes--but somehow never anything valuable), so he really needs someone who will be home often. He is not very vocal, except when he gets excited about going outside. He'll let you know it! He's housetrained and we can count on one hand the number of times he's had little accidents in the house--and those only when stressed out. I wish we could tell you everything about him, because he really is the best dog and the apple of our eyes. We want to see him go to a good home.
