About Maxfield

Australian Cattle Dog / Norwich Terrier
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Maxfield is a gentle, sweet dog. Easy on leash, good with other animals. He is definitely mature, in his golden years. Loved hikes but now he seems to have some arthritis, usual aches and pains upon standing. He likes to be close, cuddled and brushed. Would be great with a mature family or household. A wonderful companion. Maxfield has come a long way with his trust and is a personal favorite of the Sanctuary Manager. He is a very loving boy and highly bonding who would love a low key and predictable home of his own. He can get along very well with many dogs and is doing beautifully with meeting and learning to trust new people. It has actually been many years now since he has had any issues and needs only to have his new potential friends give him some time, and in no time he is giving them hugs. Given that he has bitten in the past, and we know that he needs time and specific introductions, he truly does need a rural home, and we are holding out hope that we will find him that special someone! SHOULD THIS FACE BE ON A POSTER OR WHAT!!! MAXFIELD adores water . . . and a jet stream of water from a hose delighted. BUT, he has both predictable and unpredictable fear responses to sudden approaches by both dogs and humans. This very handsome young fellow is recovering from past abuses including major teasing and taunting from kids in the neighborhood where the woman who rescued him lived but he is resilient and already relaxing considerably more compared to his arrival. He has a very smiley appearance and wants to be happy!! With enough time and space to get acquainted and the ability to observe and freedom of movement, he adjusts quite well - he is also very responsive to commands, and smart! Maxfield is only suitable for ADULT ONLY homes with very savvy dog handlers, who know and love herding breed types, and who want to take up the challenges of his fear aggression and lack of bite inhibition.
