About Ellie

Adoption Fee: $275
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Cuddle-Love Ellie! Ellie is an approximately 13-month-old, 47-pound female Australian Shepherd mix. Ellie's fur is still growing out some after she came to us shaved (a no-no for Aussies!). Ellie's foster mom describes her as 'super sweet and cuddly'! She loves to snuggle up close for belly rubs and pets when you sit next to her on the floor. Besides cuddles, playing with toys is another Ellie favorite. She lets you know when it is 'Ellie time' with a coaxing bark and persuasive nudge of a beloved toy. She enjoys playing Ellie-style fetch and will bring her toy back to you and drop it in your general vicinity. Described as a window-watcher, Ellie loves to calmly observe the world as it passes by. This smart girl knows 'sit' and is already coming to understand 'down'. Ellie has been quick to learn the house rules of her foster family. She is very responsive to correction with a simple 'ah-ah'. Gentle Ellie is treat-motivated and takes them softly from your hand. She sits patiently to have her leash attached to her harness. For this curious girl the world is filled with lots of fascinating things that can distract her when out and about, but Ellie is learning to follow her foster's lead on proper walk etiquette. Treats and 'kennel' are usually all the encouragement Ellie needs to go into her crate. She is house-trained and does very well with a regular schedule. This loving pup came to us after being returned to the shelter for nipping an adult who grabbed a high-value bone from her without warning. (Dog People know you don't unexpectedly snatch a high-value treat from ANY dog.) We got Ellie out of that shelter because she did not belong there. She belongs in a loving home, with people who understand dogs. Her foster mom says the only time Ellie hesitates in letting go of a toy is when she hopes to tempt you into a game of tug of war. Ellie's foster mom has been teaching her commands like 'take' and 'drop' to use while swapping out treat balls, Kongs, bones, and other toys. What kind of home is Ellie's 'here to stay'? Ellie's Forever Family will be dog-savvy, and will have looked into herding breeds or will have had experience with them and therefore understand their wonderful nature. Since Ellie is shy at first, her Forevers are patient people who will slowly introduce her to new people and experiences, expanding her world. Like many Aussies, Ellie may be tempted to 'herd', so she would do best in a home with children 7-and-up who have been taught to be dog-savvy. Ellie is very content to hang out and play with her people and toys! She might enjoy a canine companion, but slow introductions should be made with resident animals. Ellie should be fed separately from any other dogs. A fenced in yard would be great, but is not necessary for a family who will enjoy taking her on walks. 'Dear Adopter, if you're looking for sweet and cuddly, I'm your girl!' says Ellie. 'A place next to you is all I'm looking for. If you will give me patient love, then I'll be your Forever Love.'
