About Toby

Adoption Fee: $185
Mastiff / Lab
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Sweet Toby! This very gentle 8-9ish yr old, 78lb, affectionate boy desperately needs a home that can give him lots of love and attention. He lived with one family since he was a puppy but when they recently lost their 10yr old female dog, they decided they wanted no more large dogs so turned Toby in to a kill shelter in Ca. With just one day to go before his scheduled euthanasia, we were contacted and asked to help him. Of course we said yes! According to his last owner, he is a mastiff, chocolate lab, mixed with who knows what else... due to his curly fur, possibly some Chesapeake bay retriever. Whatever he is, he's such a wonderful guy! Toby is such an easy going boy that loves to be with his people, meander through the yard, bask in the sun or nap on his pillow. He's a bit arthritic in his back legs so no stairs are best, but he can maneuver a few stairs here and there. He is hard of hearing so won't always come when called. You hardly notice this though, because he always stays close and pays attention to where you are. He loves to go for car rides so he'd be a great companion for running errands. And he absolutely loves his short walks each day. In his previous life, he was ok with some dogs but now it would be best if he was the only dog in the home. He's house and crate trained and although he can be alone for a reasonable amount of hours, we are hoping his new person will leave him for only a few hours at a time. He must have a fenced, grassy yard and no kitties for Toby! Because he is an older boy, he's not interested in the energy is small children so kids must be over 14... although he'd thrive with a retired, easy going couple!
