About SLADE

Sweet, gentle Slade is a former bait dog who arrived at the NYC shelter with trauma wounds all over his poor little body. He also lost sight in one eye as a result of his injuries. Currently in a Foster/training program, he has been able to heal from his wounds and has undergone surgery on his paw as well as a major surgery where a portion of his intestines were removed due to a major obstruction. He has also been working on his emotional and behavioral issues that he incurred as a result of his former abuse and neglect. It has not been an easy life for this poor, young dog. But he has proven himself resilient and extremely forgiving. Despite the obvious cruelty he endured, there is not a mean bone in this little guy's body. He is very friendly, affection-seeking, and wags his tail when you talk to him. When you see the injuries on his sweet face and that vulnerable, small stature, it makes you wonder how anyone could be so heartless. 'Slade is a bouncy, compact bundle of joy whose tail has not stopped wagging since the minute he walked through our door,' says his foster mom. 'Just to watch him can warm the coldest of hearts...' He is house-trained, likes treats, but most importantly, likes to spend his time next to you. Not surprisingly, he has separation anxiety and needs to be with his trusted person(s) most of the time. He prefers to be out of the crate and in a doggie bed. We can only wonder what dark memories he has, and the crate certainly brings back a few. As long as he has an area to call his own, he'll be happy as a clam, though he'd much rather be close to you and follow you around all day! He is not a hugger though, but loves to be pet! Give him a massage and he just melts. He's looking for a place to heal emotionally and a family to love... one where he's the only pet, with experienced, patient adults in a very calm environment to give him the greatest chance of success! Due to his separation anxiety, he would do best in a home where someone is able to be home with him the majority of the time. 'He's taken our breath away and deserves nothing less than the best home in the world,' says his foster mom. 'Whoever will be lucky and blessed enough to have this kind hearted, gentle lamb in their life has certainly won the lottery.' Slade is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.
