About Rusti

Rusti is a guy who just hasn't had that someone to love him as much as he loves in return. Who doesn't want that?! Rusti is house-trained and generally well-mannered in the house. This handsome boy is a lower-energy dog that will follow his people around the house while happily waggin' his tail when he isn't curled up somewhere snoozing. Rusti LOVES to snuggle and cuddle! He also loves to be praised and encouraged and is constantly seeking attention. Since Rusti is not a stranger to rejection it takes time to earn his trust, but once earned he will love BIG in return. Rejection typically leads to lack of confidence, and while Rusti has struggled with his confidence, his fosters and trainers have made big strides with helping him build it back up. Rusti would be the luckiest dog to find a human that is also confident and willing to continue working on his training and needs. He would also do well with another canine buddy or two in the home to help maintain this confidence. Rusti does very well playing with other well-mannered dogs he knows and enjoys playtime. He does his best with slow introductions and plenty of time to adjust to his new friends. Rusti's experiences in life have made him feel he always needed to be on high alert with a need to be heard for attention. He is learning that is not the way to behave or how get attention, and is working on controlling the need to let everyone know when there are things going on outside. Rusti has been going through training including how to properly handle various situations, his reactions, and learning neighborhood dogs are not his enemies. Rusti is doing very well with his training and has come so far! A privacy fence and a close watch over open doors would help him succeed in his new home. Rusti is a dog that is so very loving and loyal and most comfortable once he feels he has a familiar, trusted pack whether human or canine. New people, especially bearded men, are something Rusti needs extra patience and time to become at ease with. He will let you know when he is uncomfortable in a situation, or if his personal space isn't being respected, by giving a warning. A mature family or individual is best for this guy, as young kids are too much for him and it is clear he is uncomfortable when they are running, acting all silly, or tugging or hugging on him. Rusti likes his down time and is a fan of having his own crate to make his private den as he is happiest in calm and quiet situations. We believe Rusti to be a 5 year old, 55 pound Viszla-Labrador Retriever mix that is starting to learn dog food is good and much more healthy for him than people-food. Rusti is a great dog that is looking for someone to love him as much as he loves, and who is willing to provide the time, patience, tools, understanding and encouragement he needs, for a ton of love, enjoyment, cuddles, and loyalty in return. Rusti is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped and his adoption fee is $200. He tested positive for Lyme disease but is on treatment and asymptomatic.
