Theo is a beautiful 1-1/2 year old, 52-pound male Labrador/Shepherd mix located in Quincy, MA. It's hard to believe, but this dog's dreamy good looks have actually been a curse. Theo is not a storybook lab who we're all familiar with. He's a nervous boy who tries very hard to live up to his roots as a friendly family dog that anyone can pet, but the shepherd in him says, Whoa, not so fast! Unfortunately, this cautious attribute has gotten Theo into a bit of trouble and he now has a single bite history. Because he is nervous and lacks confidence, Theo reacts to uncomfortable situations such as noise and strangers. On one occasion he nipped a neighbor to cause scratched skin. On another occasion he was frightened by a loud noise while on a lead and reacted by biting a visitor on the chest. ARK friend and trusted trainer/behaviorist Maura Porter of Clear Skies Training evaluated Theo and will be present for meet and greets. Theo is not an aggressive dog at all, but he has low confidence with new situations. He isn't good with surprises and is unsure around strange dogs, especially large ones. Aside from these setbacks, Theo is super sweet and has a winning smile. Theo loves walking, running around a fenced yard, going to the beach, and swimming. In the home setting he is generally a quiet dog. He's house-trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. Theo is treat motivated and will be a joy to continue his basic cues and work on new tricks. This activity will boost his confidence, work his busy teen mind, and help him bond with his new person. Theo requires an experienced owner, someone who has helped a dog overcome issues. He needs an adult-only quiet home with a family who likes a regular schedule and enjoys walking and playing with a their dog. He is best as the only pet, so no cats or other dogs, please.
