About Astrid

Adoption Fee: $175
German Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Just broke up with her boyfriend to focus on herself. Yoga instructor. Vegan-ish. Loves Whole Foods but hates when the kale bundles are too thick. Falls asleep during every movie. Fav beat is Celine Dion's 'That's The Way It Is'. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intake Date: 15 May 2020 ----- Age at intake: 1.5 yrs ----- Breed: shepherd mix, small ----- Size: 25 lbs ----- Status: hit by car, neglect, reported to animal pound ----- Compatible with: dogs, children, cats ----- Suitable for: home with wheelchair ramp if needed for outdoors. ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: paralyzed. Requires bladder expressing 3-4 times a day and a wheelchair and drag bags (provided). ----- Additional Notes: Sweet Astrid is one of the kindest dogs we have ever met. She arrived to a pound paralyzed with one adoring puppy at her side. It is obvious he is her biggest fan. They have a very strong connection. Based on x-rays, the vet says her injury happened approximately 6 weeks ago. She has a severed spine and open wounds down to the bones on her legs from dragging herself across the ground. She is underweight, riddled with ticks, and internal parasites. But we have that taken care of. She is currently on antibiotics to heal her legs with daily wraps and epsom soaks. She has no bladder control so requires daily expressing which is super easy and we will gladly teach an adopter. She loves to use a wheelchair and we cannot wait for her own to arrive that fits her. She also had drag bags on order. Bags will allow her to maneuver easily in the home or outdoors without causing injury to her back legs. Despite what she has endured, this girl is beyond amazing. She is so gentle and kind. She also is very quick at getting around! We know it will take a special adopter but we are also very positive that human is out there for her. She is worth fighting for. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption is finalized at that time. FBS standard adoption fee is $175 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are not guaranteed but often a best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. IF A YARD IS PRESENT, A SECURE FENCE IS MANDATORY. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Medical Expenses Incurred Thus Far: Tick treatment = $25; X-rays/antibiotics = $250; Spay = $150; Vaccinations = $25.00; Microchip = $10.00; Deworming = $40.00; Total vetting = $500 + food, bedding, drag bags, wheelchair, diapers, etc; Adoption fee = $175; Loss = +$700----- Without support, we cannot continue to rescue dogs. Unfortunately many are hesitant to pay the minimal adoption fee when dogs can be found free anywhere. What they aren't prepared for is the vetting expense required and then the animals are not fixed and the reproduction surplus continues. Sponsoring a dog's adoption fee allows us to find them a home after being fully vetted, continue intaking and vetting, and continue baby steps towards 'fixing companion animal overpopulation'. To sponsor, send your donation via PayPal at [email protected] with the name of the dog you would like to sponsor in the note! As always, we appreciate your support and cannot do this without you. You are unsung heroes!!
