About Butter

Adoption Fee: $50
Rhodesian Ridgeback / Redbone Coonhound
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Our adult son recently died unexpectedly, and we are fostering his beloved dog Butter (so named because our son was a 'foodie'). Until Butter is adopted, we're committed to keeping him with us so he doesn't have to spend time in a dog shelter. We would love to adopt Butter, but our personal situation doesn't allow us to do that with assurance of the best outcome for him. Butter is a sweet, loving, and affectionate dog whose goofy side brings many smiles to our faces. He's been a good source of entertainment during our shelter-at-home time. He's also very loyal and an excellent watch dog, though he's friendly to strangers once he gets used to them. He's about six years old, in excellent health, and has plenty of energy. His hobbies include chasing a laser light, chasing squirrels in the back yard, and playing tug-of-war. And he LOVES attention and car rides. By the way, he'll want to be a lap dog unless given a firm 'No.' Butter is house broken, and has never had an accident in our home. He's also good about waiting for his food (after being firmly told), and excels at 'talking' and 'speaking' for a meal or snack. We're not sure if he's been crate broken, and he hasn't had any leash training. Butter would love a home with a fenced-in back yard. We have a chain link fence around part of our property and he's never tried to climb it. Although he occasionally digs in the yard, it's infrequent and has never been a problem. We've never observed Butter with any other animals. We expect he'd want some high energy contact, so first meetings should be closely monitored. Tolerance to cats is doubtful. Vital Statistics - Age: 6 years; Height: 26 inches at shoulder; Weight: 60 lbs; Health: Excellent, current on vaccinations (rabies, heartworm pills); Butter is Neutered and Micro-Chipped
