About DJ

Lab mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

DJ is a 3 year old Black Lab who came in with Dante and our family is fostering both through their heartworm treatment. DJ is a loveable goofball. He's shy when he first meets people but then will give them his entire heart. He won't get up on the couch right now (Dante told him to stay off) but he will put his front legs on your lap and lay on you. He loves to be pet and is learning how to play with you. He loves to play with balls by himself with throwing them up in the air and batting them around. He's completely house and crate trained. He hardly pulls on the leash but does like to go in circles around you while walking. He's a smart dog that really, really wants to please so is easy to train. DJ will need an understanding owner because we don't think he had a good Home before he came to Canine Collective. He flinches and cowers if you quickly put your hand over his head so we have learned to do it slowly or to come from the side. The same with No. Said to him in a kind of loud voice will send him running. But he response well to na na or ech sort of noise. He loves running around so a back yard, trips to a dog park or a running partner is needed. He would be fine in an apartment because he's happy to be lounging around with you. He is good with other dogs and kids. Probably cats but we don't have any to test him with. Doesn't mind staying in his crate while you are at work. He is undergoing heartworm treatment and will have his last treatment next week. Heartworm is transmitted via mosquito so having him in your household will not transmit to your dogs. He will have to be kept quiet for the majority of the day through April but we have been keeping him quiet for March so he's used to it.
