About Sadie

Adoption Fee: $175
German Shepherd / Australian Kelpie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Sadie is a 3-4 year old, shepherd mix who weighs about 35 pounds. She came to us from a rural shelter with more dogs than adopters. She is nervous around new people but has made great strides in her foster home. She continues to be just a bit more trusting of females than males. Sadie is an affectionate dog who has bonded deeply with her foster family and will bond deeply with an adopter who gives her time to get to know them. She is active and would enjoy a home with a fenced yard for her to play in or someone who enjoys jogging or daily walks. Sadie is house trained and is good with most of the other dogs in her foster home. There is just one little male dog that she isn't a big fan of. We think he pulled her tail when no one was looking! Medically, Sadie feels good and looks great but she does have heartworm disease. She was too stressed out at the vet office to get the fast kill injections so she is on a slow kill treatment. That means that Sadie needs to take a chewable, heart worm preventative (which we will supply for her) for the next year and be retested. This pill keeps the heartworms from multiplying and the old ones will eventually die off. She is not contagious to other dogs and shows no side effects of the disease. Sadie certainly is a smart and affectionate dog but does need an adopter who will give her time to create a bond with her new family. Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We take applications online and hold adoption events at Petsmart in Waynesboro, VA (821 Town Center Drive Waynesboro, VA 22980) every Saturday. A $175.00 adoption fee ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
