Meet Gilley (short for Gillian), one of Save the Strays' long-term residents. At 9 years young, Gilley still has a lot of pep in her step. Although she enjoys a good romp in the yard and barking at the squirrels, she's also quite happy to just hang out, get a belly rub and take a nap at your feet. She goes absolutely crazy when she gets a toy - but she destroys most of them in 10 minutes or less. Because Gilley has been here so long (since 2018) she won't be a 'plug and play' adoption. She's been living in a rural environment with one woman and very few visitors, so she'll definitely need time to adjust to a new home and adopter(s). She's nervous outside of her home environment (e.g., the vet's office), but calm and submissive. Still, she should be introduced to new sights, sounds and people in small doses. Gilley's good with other dogs once she gets to know them but would be quite happy as an only dog. Her ideal placement would be a quiet home with one or two adults where she's either the only dog or there's only one other laid-back dog of similar size. If you're someone who has a heart for the 'underdog' and can give Gilley time, space and understanding to let her relax and adjust, you might be pleasantly surprised at the result. Once she knows you, she's incredibly loyal and gives and receives affection freely. Gilley's adoption fee is $200. We offer a three-week trial adoption period and will refund a dog's adoption fee if it is returned within that period. For more information or an application, email us at [email protected].
