Tucker is a 1.5 year old Anatolian Shepard mix who was recently adopted from the Austin Animal Center. He is neutered and up to date on all shots (6/2018), microchipped, on heart worm preventive, and gets a monthly dose of flea protection! I adopted him in July from AAC. He was brought in as a stray (although it is obvious that he was someones pet) and was only in the shelter for 6 days before I decided that he belonged home with me! Without having any history on him, or knowing past behaviors it was a risk as I also have a cat in the home. He is WELL BEHAVED, housebroken, never barks (even when someone knocks), he is fine being alone at home, and frankly he is quite lazy! He came into my home without knowing any commands, but has come a long way with regular training. He currently knows how to sit, stay while leashed or inside, and how to lie down. He also walks well on a leash with a gentle leader. He is not destructive, and does not go on furniture! He loves to snuggle, oversized lapdog if you will! His favorite activity is chewing bones! Bully sticks, rawhide, marrow bones- whatever! He has also discovered how awesome swimming is too! Why I am looking for a new home- Tucker suffers from resource guarding. Something I have almost no experience in, and has posed a threat to my small curious cat. They otherwise get along- but the cat hasn't seemed to learn to leave him alone. This is really only an issue with toys, bones especially, and sometimes food. He also does not do well with other dogs) The behavioralist and myself believe that this is fear driven, rather than aggression driven as he does not initiate reactiveness, but will react aggresively if a dog approaches him. This is an issue for myself as my significant other also has a dog and we can never take the dogs out at the same time, so someone is always being left behind/locked up. -We are needing to keep them separate at all times, it has increasingly become unfair to all animals in the house -not to mention having to keep two curious dogs apart while trying to navigate through the house. Tucker makes a great candidate to be able to get along with other dogs in the future- but due to our living situation we do not have the time to wait to see if he will or not. Tucker would do great in a house with cats that don't need feel the need to be around him 24/7- and in a home without other dogs- or with someone that has experience introducing fear aggressive dogs.
