Our Winter seems to have an iridescent glow about her! This pretty girl appears to be a mix of Westie and Poodle, a 'WestiPoo' which we've come to learn is a desirable 'designer' breed mix. Winter joined us recently from a local animal shelter, where she seemed shy and depressed, after her owners abandoned her. She just couldn't rally enough to wow adopters. We were asked to take her into our Rescue program, and our mission was to let her loosen up a little bit, and help her rediscover The Good Life. Winter is an absolute hoot. The shy wallflower mask dissolved in about 5 minutes. She blossomed into a nosy little busy body, who is in the middle of everybody's business, and absolutely loves to stick her two cents in to every situation! Winter needs folks that need her. She's never going to be happy crated in a household where she can't be the center of attention! Winter is an impossibly cute, cuddly little girl. Just one year years old, she is navigating the rescue circuit, and has bewitched all of her caretakers! She is a total love, and has real lap dog potential, and yet she also has that fiesty Terrier spirit that makes for a great activity partner. Winter can be shy with new people, but she craves human contact too much to sit by the sidelines for long. Winter may approach new folks cautiously, but then barely waits for an invitation to smother her person with kisses! She is an affectionate girl, who bonds quickly, once she trusts. At 24 pounds, Winter has the characteristic leggy Poodle stance, with a shaggy coat of half curls, and a prominent Westie head. She has a lean physique, and can be quite the athlete. Her coat is kind of a bizarre mix of long wispy pieces and short smooth texture, that suggests the breeding of a curly and wiry hair breeds. Her coat is smooth to the touch, easy to groom with minimal shedding. Winter may require the services of a professional groomer a few times a year. Winter would be a great choice for an active single or couple who enjoy an medium energy Terrier type companion dog. She would be an enthusiastic companion on walks or hikes, and she loves to travel and be part of the action. Winter could also join an active family with older kids, as long as everyone can commit to her training and exercise schedule. We would like to steer clear of toddlers, as they may overwhelm her. The key to Winter is adequate exercise and mental stimulation to keep her from wallowing in the boredom and frustration that leads to behavior problems. Winter is a social girl, and could easily join a home with other well trained, energetic dogs. We have not exposed her to cats, but the terrier-cat vibe can be tricky. She has begun to grasp the basics of leadership and obedience work, and has passed a few of the Canine Good Citizen tests. Winter has the potential to excel in this program. Winter is in excellent health, and has been recently spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
