About Phelan

Adoption Fee: $400.00
American Eskimo Dog
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Our Phelan is a spirited boy, who just lost his home as his owner went into senior housing. Nine years old, he has lost his devoted Mom, and seems perplexed at his new life in a busy multi-dog Rescue. Phelan is a stunning, Standard American Eskimo Dog, and at 30 pounds he is a medium sized dog, who is slightly overweight. He has been much loved and well cared for, albeit a bit overfed! He has a beautiful, full Eskie coat, with a light undercoat and some faint biscuit markings. Phelan's stance is slightly lopsided due to an overzealous pruning of the pantaloons, in an attempt to create a poop free zone. Otherwise, Phelan's coat is in beautiful shape, and is soft to touch. As an Eskie, he does shed a good deal, and blows his coat a couple times a year. Phelan has a neutral temperament, and he seems to adapt well to whatever situation he encounters. There is comedy in his countenance: he always seems to be in the thick of things, minding somebody else's business. Phelan would make an ideal companion for an active single or couple who have some rescue experience, and are willing to open their hearts to senior dog in need of a new lease on life! Phelan has lived as an only dog, and yet it's a testament to his good nature that he has adapted so well to a busy, multi-dog foster home. He seems to adapt well to a pack dynamic, without causing waves. Other dogs seem to accept him readily, and we think he would thrive in a multi-dog home with one or two other balanced dogs. He may also do well in a feline home, if properly supervised. Phelan has done well with his obedience work, and knows most of his commands. He is well on the way to becoming a Canine Good Citizen. Motivated adopters can easily take him the rest of the way. Eskies tend to relish their obedience training, and it is one of the best ways to channel their considerable intelligence, and provide much needed mental stimulation. Obedience work is a wonderful way to bond with Phelan, as he is both treat and praise motivated, and very easy to handle. Phelan has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and is neutered. He has just had a dental procedure during which he lost 3 teeth. His preoperative blood work was within normal limits, and will provide baseline values for vet work Vet care going forward. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
