About Cisco

Meet Cisco. He is 7-1/2 years old and weighs a very under-nourished 3.07 lbs. He is being fostered in Lighthouse Point, FL. UPDATED BIO 05/01/2018: Cisco is one of 26 dogs pulled by a sister rescue group from a horrendous hoarding/backyard breeding situation today. He is one of the 10 dogs that UYR was able to bring into United Yorkie Rescue. All of these dogs were terribly neglected and medically-needy and were all living in an unsafe, unsanitary and over-crowded home with very little human interaction. All of them appear to be very sweet and docile, even though many of them may have hidden medical issues that we are not yet aware of. Cisco continues to thrive in his foster home and is learning how to be a cherished companion dog. He is slowly gaining weight from his undernourished entry weight of 2.5 lbs. Cisco's healthy weight would be around 4 lbs. He has a great appetite and prefers dry food, even though most of his remaining teeth are rotten and will he will likely lose them soon when he has a dental and a neuter on 05/10. Cisco has slowing found his voice, and he thinks when the doggie companions in his foster home bark, he should bark louder! He is becoming a funny little character who is very curious and very active and always wants to be on the move. His previous overcrowded situation didn't allow him to roam at will and he is enjoying this new-found freedom. Sweet! PLEASE NOTE the following special circumstances: - Due to Cisco's small size, he cannot be adopted into a home with children; he needs an adult-only home. No exceptions will be made. UPDATED BIO 04/20/2018: At Cisco's first vet visit, he was determined to be very underweight and was also severely dehydrated and hypoglycemic. After receiving fluids and a B12 injection, he is feeling much better. He also has a great appetite, so hopefully he will soon be at a much healthier weight, which should be around 4-5 lbs. Cisco, lovingly called 'Little Peanut' by his foster mom, will have his dental and neuter once he reaches his optimum weight; sadly, he may lose most or all of his teeth since they were so horribly neglected. He doesn't appear to have any other main health issues, and will see the vet next week for his updated vaccinations and weight check. Cisco is active and curious, and very grateful to be rescued from the horrible conditions he has lived in all of his life. Foster Mom said that in Cisco's previous over-crowded and neglectful situation, one thing he obviously did enjoy was having another doggie companion to pal around with. He has let her know that he really needs a forever home where he has a buddy, close to his size and age, and this would make him much happier. PLEASE NOTE the following special circumstances: - Due to Cisco's small size, even when he has gained a few pounds, he cannot be adopted into a home with children; he needs an adult-only home. No exceptions will be made. - Adoption applications are being accepted for Cisco; however, please keep in mind that he still has some vetting to be taken care of, and he must gain some much-needed weight before he will be ready for adoption. Please be patient with our process in considering adoption applications for Cisco. Our primary interest is getting this sweet boy healthy so that he can continue to enjoy a wonderful life in a loving, forever home. - UYR is reaching out to our friends, supporters and generous donors in the hopes of raising the thousands of dollars it will cost our group to get Cisco healthy, as well as the 9 other dogs from the same hoarding/backyard breeding situation. They not only need to have their vaccinations updated, be neutered or spayed and have extensive labs, but they also need to emotionally heal from years of neglect. For the ones that are HW+, they will soon begin treatment which will last 4-5 months.
