About Neil

The first picture I ever saw of NEIL (A1762156) was of him laying on a sidewalk, looking as if he might have been dead. A couple of bystanders tried to get him to stand, unsuccessfully. They tried giving him food and water, which he wouldn't take. A wonderful woman, who weighs about as much as NEIL, picked him up and brought him to the East Valley Animal Shelter. NEIL was carried inside and examined by a vet. He appeared to be healthy, but totally shut down. He refused to walk. A couple of ACTs had to carry him to a kennel. It was days before he lifted his head, but once he did, a leash could be put on him, but he still refused to cross the kennel threshold. After several days of coaxing NEIL out, he'd take a few steps and then drop, like a pancake. Each day after that, NEIL gained more confidence. Now, NEIL is one of the most exceptional dogs. Despite his nearly 100 pounds, he is easy to handle on leash (you don't need to have a 'strong arm' [Neil Armstrong, get it?]; he loves everyone he meets, and if anyone is not quick enough to reach out to him, he reaches his paw out to touch you; and he loves his belly rubbed. NEIL was adopted and returned to the shelter after just one day, because he was, allegedly, destructive. He is 5-years-young and I was informed that he had lived in an abusive/neglectful household, prior to being brought to the shelter. Please share so that NEIL's next chapter starts with him being adopted/rescued by a person/family who will give him time to acclimate in a new environment (which should include being allowed indoors), and have a happy forever after.
