About Kelli

Kelli is a wonderful people dog who loves to be outdoors. 15 lbs, 7 years old next month, medium size. She was purchased as a puppy from a pet store. The purchase papers say 'Bichon Frise'. However, Frises from France have coal black eyes. Kelli's are amber like the Bichon Havanese cousin from Cuba. She's a great companion for hiking, running, camping, road trips, or relaxing at home. The beach is a particular happy place. When off-leash Kelli is compelled to be the official welcome greeter for all people and dogs coming onto the beach! She's great with people of all ages. Kelli prefers people over dogs unless they will play a good game of chase. She loves cats and can't understand why they don't want to play with her. When Kelli came to us from a young family she played her own version of Tag and Soccer. The 1st owner also trained her as a 5 mile running partner and she's has never lost her love for that. Kelli has severe food and environmental allergies. We had her allergy tested because she was scratching holes in herself and chewing her paws bloody. There are currently just 2 cost effective dog food options on the market that she can eat without issues. A raw food diet also works well, but that has been cost prohibitive for us. She is allergic to all grains, chickpeas, chicken, pork, and eggs, to name a few. While it's easy to find grain-free dog food, it's extremely difficult to find it without other allergens. Treats are also severely restrictive. The comprehensive allergy list is easy to read. I keep a picture in my phone to reference when buying new treats or a new food turns up on the store shelf. The good news is that the list makes it easy to share many safe table scraps with Kelli! It's heartbreaking to have to re-home Kelli. Her spirit will break with upcoming changes to the household where she will spend too much time alone or with dog sitters. She needs to be a companion to a non smoking person or family who's home and active vs. sedentary. Kelli will be 7 yrs old at the end of May. Perspective owners should be willing to share appropriate photos by email of the home/yard where Kelli will live, and with whom. Selected owners will need to pick her up in Lebanon, OR.
