About Dexter

Dexter is fostered in Bradenton, FL (Manatee County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families! Dexter is a petite little dude of 1-2 years, 18 lbs, who is learning about life and needs socialization. He is very submissive with people, and is learning to trust. Once he does trust you, he will dance on your legs, give little kisses, and come to you for pets and hugs. If you move too fast he will dance out of your way. He is rather independent, but wants to be around people. He will come to you on his time and go to his crate on his time. He loves other dogs, playing tug and playing with toys. Yes, he is a digger, but is easily corrected verbally. Dexter needs a person or family that is patient and encouraging, and can take the time to get him out and about. There is a lot of active dog in there and we have been slowly chipping away at getting that out. He is a very very clean boy, totally housebroken, totally crate trained. He walks nicely on lead. No resource guarding. He is rather barky with men and needs to be desensitized with them. He will make someone an awesome companion, his activity level will match yours, but his love will go way beyond. He would not do well with younger children, as he is somewhat noise sensitive, but older children that are well mannered around pets should not be an issue. A fenced yard will be a must with this adventurous little man. He does have a good recall out in the yard, but out in the field the joy of exploring is just too much. Dexter is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, microchipped and heartworm negative.
