About Buffy

Our Buffy is a graceful Goddess Elder, who deserves to live her golden years in the lap of luxury and love. Eight years young, this statuesque beauty was abandoned by her owner to the overcrowded NYC. Since there is no stray hold on owner surrendered dogs, they are relegated quickly to the euthanasia list. Luckily, Buffy had developed quite a fan base online, and she was soon brought to our attention. We expect owner surrendered dogs to have a rough time adjusting to shelter life, because the new accommodations are so foreign and extreme that very few make it through the process without some tension. Buffy's shelter evaluation revealed a dog in the grip of fear and uncertainty, and she was too frightened to qualify for the shelter adoption program. We were thrilled to invite Buffy to our Connecticut Rescue, so that we could give her some time to relax and show her true colors. Buffy blossomed immediately, her fear subsided, and she began to bond to everyone that handled her. She has a calm and mellow nature, although her shelter experience produced a wee bit of understandable anxiety. She seemed relieved to meet us and leave the harsh shelter environment behind. Buffy adapted to foster care quickly, and became affectionate with everyone. Buffy appears shy and timid at first, but warms quickly to human touch. She is a gentle girl, who has excellent dog pack manners. Despite some reports of shelter anxiety with other dogs, Buffy was an immediate hit in our big dog play yard. She seemed to navigate all of the social barriers beautifully, and has related well to all types of dogs. Buffy could easily join a quiet home with one or two well-behaved, calm dogs, who enjoy an occasional romp around the yard. She would also be a wonderful companion for an active senior dog, who may have lost his or her housemate. Buffy appears to be a Dutch Shepherd, and has the classic Shepherd structure and physique. She seems to have the gold-brindle color pattern that differentiates the Dutch from the German Shepherd breed, as well as a fluffy coat that requires regular brushing. She is a large, muscular dog, at an optimal weight of 75 pounds, yet gentle to handle and easy to walk on lead. We would like to place Buffy in an adult home, so that everyone handling her has some experience with and respect for powerful breeds. Buffy seems classic Shepherd in personality, and she loves outdoor activity. She would be a great choice for a moderately active single or couple, a recent retiree or senior. She has a moderate exercise level, and would be a great companion to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Buffy would be happy with a couple of leisurely to brisk leash walks daily, and a game of frisbee. She could easily do well in an apartment lifestyle, and as an older dog, she can be trusted home alone for short periods of time. Buffy is a pretty good all-around companion dog, and needs to be in an environment where she can play a central role in her person's life. Buffy had no previous obedience training, but she has quickly mastered the basics. She has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She has been spayed, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
