Meet Baron (affectionately known as The Red Baron). Baron is about 2 years old and has lived his life with a 'backyard breeder.' Baron was abandoned and left to fend for himself (along with our most recent sanctuary Dane Mollie) in a house filled not only with trash, but also filled with human and animal urine and feces. When rescuers arrived at the house to get the two dogs, they found Mollie - but Baron was gone! In the meantime, Baron was found wandering the rural roads by a good Samaritan who kept him for a few days trying to find his owner. When no one stepped up, they took him to their veterinarian who knew immediately who Baron was - people had been looking for him! Baron stayed at the clinic for several days to be medically evaluated and started on medication for a skin infection caused by his living conditions. He is now in a foster home in Forest City, NC; enjoying the good life and gentle hands of people who love him. Baron is a very sweet boy who loves to run and jump and play. Until now, he has probably never known the creature comforts of a bed or toys nor had the opportunity to run and play in a yard. Baron has many foster siblings and prefers those in the 50 - 55 pound range that he can run and jump and wrestle with. This sweet boy does not like gun fire and immediately jumped into his foster dad's arms and hugged his neck when he heard distant gun fire. Baron is up to date on his vaccines and neutered. Watch for updates as he learns what its like to live in a real home and gains some social manners. Please contact Great Dane Friends ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.
