About Shane

Adoption Fee: $225
Lab / Doberman Pinscher
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hi there! I'm Shane, and I am a World Class Blanket Thief and Bed Hog! I'm a 58 lb male Doberman/Lab mix, and I'll be three years old in May. I'm completely house-trained and have never had an accident in my foster home. I'm pretty proud of that! I love to snuggle, give kisses and get belly rubs, but I don't demand it. When I'm excited about things, I wag my tail so hard that it makes my entire body wiggle back and forth. It really cracks up my Foster Family! And you won't believe how smart I am! I learn things very quickly, and I'll do anything for a training treat. My Foster Folks say that I'm one of the smartest dogs they've ever fostered. How about that?!? I live with another dog and cat and get along well with them. I've been around kids and like them as well. I love to run and wrestle with the other dog here, and will even play bow at the cat, but so far I only get dirty looks from him in return. I also have fun playing with dogs at the dog park. My previous owners said that I don't like the car, but my Foster Folks think I do great in the car, especially if it's going to the dog park! I LOVE walks, and I walk very well on my harness. I pull a little at the beginning, but I'm just in a hurry to get to my favorite potty spot. I'm not leashed reactive to people or other dogs. I'm crate-trained, but I stay at home uncrated with my Foster Brother and haven't destroyed any people things. I DO destroy all but the most durable dog toys, even the firehose kind! I sometimes guard toys against the other dog here, but my Foster Folks gently correct me each time, so I'm doing this less often. I don't guard anything against people, and I don't guard my food against the other dog. I don't shed much at all. My skin can get itchy, so I eat regular food which is fish based, and I take generic over-the-counter fish oil and allergy meds every day. It doesn't cost a lot and my Foster Folks put these in with my breakfast, so I usually eat them right up! Easy! I sleep in the bed with my Foster Folks, and other than hogging the bed and stealing their blankets, I'm quite through the night. But if I hear that you're awake in the morning, I'll yawn very loudly a few times. If that doesn't get you out of bed, then I'll bark and run around until you get my breakfast and let me outside to play! My Foster Mom says I'm 'being a Shaniac'! Mostly I'm relaxed and quiet, but I also bark when I want to play with my Foster Brother; if the cat is being mean to me; if I hear someone outside; and when you come home. My occasional barking will probably make us unpopular in an apartment. My previous owners were not dog savvy and didn't know how to train me properly. They disciplined me in a negative way, which made me fearful and anxious about them. When I barked at the doorbell, they treated me in a way that scared me a lot, and I eventually came to associate houseguests with bad things happening to me. My Foster Folks are calm and positive with me, and in my current environment, I'm not fearful or anxious at all. I just get to be a regular dog - silly and happy! I'm very well behaved here and don't really need a lot of training. I'm so smart that when I do need training, a simple, gentle correction is all that is necessary. I pick things up very quickly. Every dog should have a loving, patient family who will train with positive techniques, but I need this even more than other dogs. I'm neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccines and flea and tick meds. I'm all set to go home with you! I'm totally worth my $225 adoption fee. If you have any questions about me please email my Foster Mom at [email protected]. If you would like to adopt me, and want to make sure you are first in line, please fill out an application right away here: http://pawsforlifenc.org/pet-adoptions/dog-adoptions/dog-adoption-form/. It's first come, first served, and you do NOT want to be second in line for this guy! I can't wait to meet you!
