Meet Chilli Chihuahua, a timid and very shy 5-7 year old male Chihuahua. We don't know much about this fellow's past, but it seems like he has not had an easy go of it so far. This little guy was turned into animal control by a woman who said she found him and another Chihuahua mix as strays. The dog Chili was turned in with, Biggie, was microchipped and was adopted from Pal's Place Rescue approximately 7 years ago. Thankfully animal control called us right away to let us know that a dog adopted from us had been turned in. We looked through our adoption records and informed them of Biggie's adopters. Turns out the woman who had turned him in as a stray was the woman who adopted him from us seven years ago. We are unsure why no effort was made to contact us to take him back, but sometimes people are too embarrassed or ashamed when they can no longer care for their pets. When we went to pick Biggie up we were told Chili who was also turned in with him. Chili was not adopted from us and we are unsure of where he originally came from, but we could not leave the little guy behind! Chili is very wary of most people and it takes him quite some time to trust. He's been in his foster home for several weeks now and he is finally starting to feel comfortable enough to venture out of his crate to sit on the couch with his foster mom. We are looking for a very special home for this guy. Preferably a home with Chihuahua experience. He's going to need lots of time and patience to adjust to his new environment. He will snap at people if they rush to handle or pet him before they've earned his trust, so he is not going to be compatible in a home with children. He is being fostered with other dogs and does fine with them. We would actually prefer to place him in a home with another dog or dogs that may help to boost his confidence. He is quiet in the home and in not much of a barker, so he'd do fine in an apartment or condo. Chili seems to be housebroken when kept on a regular schedule but will also use pee pads. With some time, lots of love and patience we think Chili will make a great friend. If you have room in your heart and home for a dog that's been down on his luck and for one that may have a harder time finding a home, we'd love to have you meet Chili! He is currently in a foster home in Chicago and can be seen by appointment once an application has been received and approved.
