MAGGIE (Smooth Coated Border Collie mix) - AVAILABLE! Only $75 Maggie was originally left abandoned outside the admissions office at a shelter when she was 6 months old. While at the shelter she was fearful, avoidant, and handling sensitive, and that landed her on their euthanasia list. That is when Safe Haven stepped in. We networked Maggie and put her up for adoption through our E-list Adoption Program. She was adopted to a great home, but the resident dog was not happy about having a new puppy full of energy in the house. Maggies' new Dad did everything he could to help his current dog accept her. He hired a trainer and worked for months at it. But as time went on, the resident dog starting attacking Maggie, and the tension between the dogs just grew. Now we are at a point where we feel it is best that she find a different home. Maggie is a sweetheart. She is very energetic so she will need an active family. She would be EXCELLENT with agility training or a hiking partner. She loves to chase her football and bring it back to you. So she might even be a great dog for the lure course. It would be great if she had a big yard to run around in. Make sure it is fenced, as she can jump pretty high. 5 or 6 foot fence should be fine with a gate. This dog deserves a wonderful home and lots of love and attention. She is a complete sweetheart and a loyal companion. Maggie was listed as a Lab/Siberian Husky at the shelter. But I think she looks most like a Smooth Coated Border Collie (she acts like one too...). I think the shelter listed her as a Husky because she has the most gorgeous blue eyes. But many breeds have blue eyes. Including the Border Collie. Maggie is easy to fall in love with and very intelligent. She knows 'Sit' and 'Down', she usually does best with these commands with a reward, but she does sit on walks when asked to. Birthday: 1/5/17 Weight at last Vet visit: 40 pounds last vet visit, Probably a little heavier now since she was still growing then. She is a very healthy weight. Cats: Unknown Small Dogs: Friendly and wants to sniff them. She has met 2 Yorkies. Maggie is excited to meet new people and pets and bounces around full of energy which can be scary to a little dog... Large Dogs: Besides the resident dog that did not accept her, she has met a black Lab and was good with him. She has also stayed with her trainer who had many other dogs there when her Dad was out of town, and from what he was told, she was good with the dogs there. Maggie can be forward and excited in wanting to meet other animals. She has a dominant personality, so she would do best with a more submissive dog that would enjoy her high energy and want to play. Kids: She hasn't been around kids, but if I had to guess I would say older kids would be fine. Men: Great with men. Affectionate and loving Women: Great with the women she has been around Strangers: She barks and jumps up sometimes when people have come to the house, but just from excitement of meeting a new person. Food: She's a great eater and has eaten everything that has been given to her. Crate Trained: She was crated for a short time and she got the hang of it pretty quickly, but she has been out of a crate for a long time now, so may need time to re-adjust if you want to crate her again. House Trained: Yes, she uses a doggy door Leash Trained: She will heal if given a shorter lead. A longer lead and she does have tendency to want to explore and chase after birds when she sees them. She is a high energy breed (Border Collie mix) so I would recommend she have 2 walks a day if possible. She would need a minimum of 30 minutes a day. The more you can exercise her the better. Car: Pretty good in a car. She does sometimes move around from front to back seat, but she eventually calms down. Other issues: None, she's wonderful Adoption fee is only $75 & includes: - Spay/Neuter surgery - Up to date on Vaccinations - Microchip - Collar - Harness* - Leash - Other surprise goodies from Safe Haven - Free office visit to Vet - 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan - 30 days of free Pet Insurance - Other coupons from Partners - Available Paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Micro records, Recommendation list, etc... - Continued Support: Safe Haven will be there for the lifetime of your new adopted pet.
