Adoption Fee: $335
Lab mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Irma's Potcake Shadow will be the first potcake coming to OPH from the battered islands of Turks & Caicos. He seems to love being petted and hugged! He's been through so much... come such a long way! He is roughly 3 years old. OPH is partnering with the SAVEDOG Project, the Turks & Caicos SPCA and Old Town Pet Resort to assist dogs who found themselves displaced through Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Through the generosity of these two organizations, we were able to bring in these dogs and ensure they have a bright future! Old Towne Pet Resort in Springfield created a seamless transition for these pups from the shelter to their resort where the dogs are being cared for, evaluated, nurtured and prepared for their forever homes. The SAVEDOG Project provided transportation from the pups from the Turks & Caicos islands. TCSPCA provided care and vetting for every dog prior to the dogs' arrival. OPH truly believes that 'It Takes a Village' to make a difference in the lives of shelter dogs. Through this Operation Hurricane initiative, we have seen the best of our partners and could not be more proud to partner with them! This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH's heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable.
