About Smokey

Smokey is an 8 year old purebred Wheaten Terruer. I have had him for 8 weeks. He came from a situation where he was likely abused by a male. He does not like the crate but suffers from separation anxiety. He went to the vet in January and had his check-up, vaccinations and senior bloodwork done (everything looked good). Smokey is very good on the leash. He is a great balance of being active when you want him to or sleeping all day if you're busy. Currently I work from home so he hangs out in the office with me most of the day and we go for a mile walk at some point on the leash. He does not usually get hyper. He loves going for walks. He loves to grab a toy and be chased around the house. He likes to play fetch. He knows sit and stay very well. He can heel, shake, and roll over. He likes to sleep in the bed but will also sleep on the floor if you prefer. He gets very excited when someone comes to the door and will jump on them, but we have been working on this with the spray bottle and he has gotten a lot better. Sometimes his excitement cannot be contained and he forgets. He loves having his belly rubbed. He loves to snuggle. His previous family said he did not get along with their cats. He gets along OK with our 5 year old black lab but he is a little dominant towards him and will display guarding behaviors regarding food and the bed. I think he could get along with another dog that was submissive but the best bet for him would be a home without another animal so he can be the center of your life. Smokey does not like men. The behavioral specialist we brought him to suggested that he was abused by a man and possibly kicked when going into the crate as he runs in very scared. We have only had him 8 weeks but need to rehome him as he has been aggressive to my husband and has bitten him twice. I am pregnant and we have decided not to keep him once the baby is here. He is the sweetest and most affectionate dog I have ever had.
