About Mercury

Mercury is a handsome 7 year old small standard dachshund who weighs 18 pounds, and is looking for a loving home. A calm somewhat submissive boy, Mercury gets along with other dogs and kitties too. In his foster home in South Carolina, there are no children, but he seems to get along well with anyone who comes into the home. Mercury runs and plays with his dachshund foster sibling all day and he would love a home with a friend to play with. Mercury sleeps in his own dog bed at night in his foster home, but like most dachshunds, would love to join his person in the big bed. He enjoys a car ride and is very loving and sweet. Mercury is well mannered off and on a leash.He loves to snuggle and would be a wonderful addition to any home. Mercury is house trained but he does need to be reminded that it is time to go outside at regular intervals or there will be accidents. Like all dachshunds he will need to be confident in his environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. He is a smart, happy, well behaved boy. Mercury is heartworm positive and is being treated with GetALong Dachshund Rescue's slow kill protocol. We will provide this treatment for Mercury to any approved adopter until such time Mercury tests negative for heartworms. He is doing very well with this treatment!
