About Maya

Maya is a sweet and energetic Australian Sheppard mix. She is around 4 years old and has calmed down a lot in the past year. Maya is extremely smart and has responded well to training. She is very loyal also, she will be by your side throughout the day. She just wants to please! The ideal home for Maya would be somewhere with a fenced in yard where she can get out a lot of energy. Maya does have some separation anxiety when changing environments, but under stable conditions is greatly alleviated. She does well with older children (she likes to play and doesn't always know her size), though is very sweet with kids of all sizes. Maya plays very well with other dogs and loves to go to the park. She does have some resource guarding that we are working on with an animal behaviorist (Tufts Veterinary clinic). She is responding well so far, but she would be best in a single dog home or with a less needy and non-alpha dog. She truly does great with other dogs playing outside and most of the time indoors. Due to some life changes, we have recently moved from our home with backyard (in Michigan) to MA, in an apartment. Also, with two children under 2, she is not getting the care and attention she needs to thrive. It absolutely breaks our heart to think about re-homing her, but at the same time we want to do what is in Maya's best interest.
